Kate and Adam’s Wedding | Blooming Hill Farm | Blooming Grove, New York
What a treat it is to bring you this story of the lovely Kate and Adam and their beautiful wedding day at one of our new favorite spots, Blooming Hill Farm in Blooming Grove, NY. The farm itself has such a great legend behind it, which you should definitely check out on their website, and was just the perfect place for Kate and Adam’s wedding this past September. But then no one can tell their tale better than they can.
“Adam and Kate met for the first time over the bar at The Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival in January 2013. They talked about plays, drinks, and the abnormally cold frigid weather. Pretty soon, Adam was “stopping by” Kate’s bar any time he could to keep the conversation going. Kate would, occasionally, slip Adam a taste of her favorite tequilas, and Adam would muse about Brooklyn and Italy.
Slowly at first, Adam and Kate began to explore New York together. They went to parks, cheese tastings, museums, and theater. On one of their first dates, Adam started to teach Kate to play chess, earning him the epithet “The Chess Player” among Kate’s friends (the student has since become the master). Late that summer, Kate spent a month in Oregon working on a show. Forced apart, they found themselves communicating every day and fell in love at a distance.
The next year, Adam moved to New Haven for grad school, and Kate helped him set up the apartment that would become their first home. For the next four years, they made the two-hour trip between Yale and New York every weekend. They successfully biked 80 miles from Philadelphia to Atlantic City, went wine tasting in Sonoma, hiked the Trail of Ten Falls, sang together in a Bernstein opera, and dreamed about their future together. Among other things.
In July of 2017, Adam took Kate back to Storm King, the site of their first weekend date, to see an exhibition by his mother’s friend. They had a great time walking around, but the exhibition was a ruse! Adam proposed, and Kate said yes.
A wedding where either of their families live would have been inconvenient for most of their guests, so they searched for a venue near Storm King, a place sentimental to them both. They chose their Blooming Hill Farm after stepping into its beautiful ceremony location – an outdoor clearing surrounded by wild flowers underneath a sheltering tree. The delicious food and unbelievably responsive and kind staff sealed the deal.
The wedding was more joyous than they could have imagined. A meaningful ceremony with personal elements from both their families, followed by dancing late into the night expertly propelled by DJ Mario Robles and captured by the incredible Bruce Plotkin, with loved ones from all over the world, in an utterly charming location – with the right amount of luck for good weather – vaulted them into marriage filled with love and joy.”
Thanks for these beautiful words, Kate and Adam. A perfect day, in every way, and I’ll be forever grateful to both of you for including me in your most special celebration.
