Carter and Jimmy’s Wedding | The Country Club of Fairfield | Fairfield, CT
I simply couldn’t be more excited to finally share with you the wedding of Carter and Jimmy at the beautiful beach club of The Country Club of Fairfield. Truly one of Fairfield County’s hidden gems. For starters, to meet the lovely Carter and to experience her infectious smile and laugh is a joy to behold. And in Jimmy (aka #therealjimmycarter) I’d say she truly met her match in charm, wit and fun-loving. So I knew from the start that their wedding day was destined to be one of my all time favorites. I hope you’ll enjoy Carter’s telling of their story, and that you’ll get some sense of what I’m talking about through the photographs that I’m sharing. Your comments always appreciated!
“We initially met through mutual friends during our sophomore year at Georgetown University and became good friends ourselves. Late into our junior year it evolved into a budding romance!!
Jimmy proposed in early July 2016 while we were taking a walk through Southport Harbor. He said his initial plan was to do it on a trip in August, but once he had the ring in his possession he was too excited and couldn’t wait. He pulled off the ultimate surprise and when we returned to my childhood home both of our families were waiting to celebrate!!
I was the third generation to get married at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church! My grandparents were married there on September 4, 1954 and my parents on June 1, 1985. Both couples were there on September 23, which was so special (I’m VERY sentimental!!).
Father Leo O’Donovan helped Rev. Alida Ward officiate the wedding. Father Leo was a dear friend of Jimmy’s late grandfather and they both attended Georgetown. Father Leo went on to become the president of Georgetown from 1989-2001.
My dad and brother had been restoring a 1965 Land Rover for 5 years. We always said it would be the perfect getaway car, and they finally finished it over the summer of 2017! My dad and I rode up to the church in the backseat and my brother drove Jimmy and me from the church to the reception. One of my favorite pictures from the day is the three of us in the car driving through Southport center.
My parents moved from our childhood home a few months after our engagement. I had always dreamed of getting ready for my wedding there, so it was especially hard to say goodbye. My brother (Will) went into the woods behind the house a few weeks before the wedding to gather old logs from trees he had cut down over the years. He arranged the logs along the walkway to our reception with candles, so there was a little piece of the house at the wedding!!
Will also built corn hole and donut holders for the wedding. He created three sets of corn hole, which were painted by our good family friend, Caitlyn Ruble. Caitlyn painted a set with a bride and groom (with red hair, of course!), a set with the Georgetown mascots, and a set with Taft and Deerfield’s mascots (where we each attended high school). We used the donut holders to display the fresh apple cider donuts we picked up from Lyman Farms that morning.
My youngest sister, Margot, has a beautiful voice and always talked about singing at my wedding. She sang Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love” during the ceremony and Delta Rae’s “Long and Happy Life” during the reception. She was incredible!
Margot also designed the logo that we used on paper goods and details throughout the wedding!
I absolutely love cards and always write them to my friends and family. Allie and Margot (my sisters), created a book of cards written by all of my bridesmaids. They gave it to me at our house before I put on my dress – good thing the makeup was waterproof because I couldn’t stop crying!!!!! It was the most thoughtful gift, and one I will cherish forever.
If you can’t tell from all of the pictures – my favorite color is orange!!”
Congratulations to both of you, Carter and Jimmy!! B
